ART CLAY GOLD CLAYS AND GOLD EMBELLISHMENTS

Gold clays and pastes are expensive, but used in small quantities - they can add wonderful details to your work.

The castle on the right is made with Art Clay Silver which was then fired. The turrets were then painted with Art Clay Gold Paste and the piece was fired for 5 minutes on the gas hob. The results are a wonderfully rich gold.

The gold paste can also be painted on glass and glazed porcelain. In this case you will need to fire in a kiln.

Art Clay Gold clay models in the same way as Art Clay Silver. It can only be fired in a kiln. Firing temperature is 990 C (1814 F) for 60 minutes.
The clay can be diluted with water to make a paste.

The clay becomes 22K gold after firing. Shrinkage is 15%

The high cost of this products reflects the recent increases in the market price of gold.

ART CLAY GOLD PASTE 1.5gms
This is a lovely product and it worked beautifully in our tests here at the Clay Pit.

First make a piece in Art Clay Silver and fire in your usual way. Do not polish the piece but leave it in its frosty state. Paint the gold paste over the areas you wish to gild. I found that undiluted worked best on silver - but you will need to stir the paste first (it looks like a tiny puddle in the jar - but a little goes a long way.)

Leave to dry for about 15 minutes at room temperature. Then fire either in the kiln (800C - no hold time) - or magically, you can fire it for five minutes on the gas hob!

The result is a pure 22K gold coating that should be burnished to a full shine.

You can also use it to paint gold details onto glazed ceramics and fused glass. Kiln firing is necessary in this case.

The paste consists of pure gold powder in a binder with water. Dilutes with water if necessary. It comes with a bottle of medium that you should use to thin it for painting on ceramic.

1.5 grams in an (oversized!) glass pot with full instructions.

Gold Leaf - pure 24 carat gold
Single sheet 5cm x 3.5cm.

This gold leaf is much thicker than normal and is for use in the Keum boo technique when the foil is applied to fired silver clay and then fired and burnished to fuse it to the surface of the silver. A lovely way of adding gold touches to your work. The leaf (or foil) can be cut out using paper punches or with scissors.
