Firing Art Clay Silver in a Kiln

Art Clay Silver is easy to fire in a kiln. The advantage of kiln firing is that you can fire much larger pieces than with the other two methods. You can also fire pieces with core materials such as Cork core clay and artificial stones. You will need a kiln with a temperature controller so that the temperature can be held at the right level for the time required. All Art Clay Silver packs have full firing instructions. This economically priced Turkish kiln has been thoroughly tested by the Japanese manufacturers of Art Clay and has been given a high approval rating by their instructors. It reaches 1000°C so can be used for firing Art Clay Silver, Art Clay Gold, Fusing and slumping glass and enamelling. It includes a simple digital controller so that the temperature can be raised to the correct level and then held there as long as required. A small peep-hole means you can look into the kiln during firing.

The internal firing chamber size is large enough to fire about 10 Art Clay Silver jewellery pieces at a time but the use of kiln furniture to make a second level would double this. (Try using 2 mini terracotta flower pots with a fibre board placed on top - more economical than buying shelf supports.)

The kiln can be switched to show the temperature inside the kiln even when it is not heating which is a great help when slow cooling is required such as for fused glass.
